The Arts CAN keep you healthy!

The latest research shows that: the arts can keep you healthy. Creative activities like painting, writing, pottery, drama, singing, and storytelling raise self-esteem, increase enthusiasm for life, and result in fewer doctor visits, says Gene D. Cohen, M.D., Ph.D., of George Washington University’s Center on Aging, Health and Humanities at the George Washington University Medical Center. Cohen's ongoing study at GWU's Center on Aging, Health and Humanities of approximately 300 men and women tracked several arts programs around the country. The arts participants, whose average age is 80, scheduled fewer doctor appointments and used fewer medications than members of the control group (who are not involved in the arts). They also have fewer incidents of depression, higher morale, and more involvement in outside activities. Be sure to include art as part of your health plan for living a fuller, healthier life!

Spring Studio Art Classes

Studio art classes for spring begin with new workshops in March, and continue into April, including the perennial favorites such as the Thursday Painters and Ceramics Studio classes. In addition, we are offering a Spring Break Camp for children ages 3rd through 5th grades. The morning art camp include a snack and chance to create original artwork in the studios at the Art Center!

Classes may change from the time this schedule is printed. Check the website for the latest updates and be sure to CALL the Art Center to see if a class is running before you sign up by mail or Online. Every attempt is made to inform students on the status of any classes they have signed up for before the semester begins. If you have a question, please call the Art Center at 269-962-9511.
