COLOR THEORY WORKSHOP with Elaine Wilson
Elaine Wilson, our featured artist in May with Charting the Wolverine, will be conducting a Color Theory one-day, 8 hour workshop on Monday, May 8th.
The workshop will be from 9 to noon and 1 to 4 pm.
The fee is $50 for members, $65 for non members plus a $25 material fee.
This workshop is limited to 15 artists so be sure to register early.

Elaine has an UFA from Yale School of Art and BFA from Washington University. She taught art at the University of Michigan School of Art and Design and Washtenaw Community College. She now resides in Washington D.C.

MONDAYS

S17-01 CO-OP INDEPENDENT CERAMICS
Facilitator: Dallas Shoesmith
Students must have taken a minimum of 3 Advanced Ceramics classes. Students must be able to work without an instructor. Skills in construction and glazing methods, advanced knowledge in chemicals and glaze formulas, the ability to load kilns and knowledge in firing temperatures is necessary. Extra open studio time is available on Thursdays from 1-4 pm.
$25 material fee includes 25 lbs of clay, firings and glazes. Class limit-10 students(18 years +)
8 wks-MON. Apr. 17-June 12 , 1 pm-4 pm (24 hrs) $ 80 members/$ 105 non-members
( no class on May 29-Memorial Day)

S17-02 ADVANCED CERAMICS
Instructor: Dallas Shoesmith
(Prerequisite for Independent Ceramics)
Explore surface tensions and add natural organic touches to traditional pots and sculptures. Be willing to explore. Glazing, use of chemicals and other processes will be demonstrated. You will have the opportunity to advance your creative skills by exploring a variety of mixed media with your clay creations. There will be a Raku workshop offered during the semester. Extra open studio time is available on Thursdays from 1-4 pm.

WEDNESDAYS

S17-03 BEGINNING /INTERMEDIATE CERAMICS
Instructor: Cathreen LaGrand
This class is an introduction to the basics of working with clay for beginner and intermediate students. Working on the wheel will also be included. Learn the elements of clay design, glaze techniques and the firing process.
$25 material fee includes 25 lbs of clay, firings and glazes.
Class limit-5 students (18 years +)
8 wks– WED Apr 19-June 7 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm (20hrs)

S17-04 ACRYLIC FOR BEGINNING/INTERMEDIATE ARTISTS
Instructor: Linda Holderbaum
The media of acrylic paint will be explored through various exercises for both beginners and intermediate students. Students bring their own paints and paper/canvases. Canvases will be provided for the learning exercises. Class limit-10 students(18 years +)
6 wks– WED. 10 am -Noon April 26-May 31 (12 hrs)

S17-05 3-WEEKS FOR FUSED GLASS BEGINNERS
Instructor: Michelle Dunkelberger
Each week builds on a new skill while learning all the basics of fused glass In this three week class you will create 2 coasters 1 small dish and 1 whimsical piece that can be used as a window hanger or placed in your garden. Class limit– 10 students (18 years +)
3 wks– WED. 6-8 pm April 26 - May 10 (6 hours)
$45 members/ $65 non-members plus $35 in supplies

S17-06 6 WEEK INTERMEDIATE FUSED GLASS
Instructor: Michelle Dunkelberger Students can bring in their own glass with instructors approval or purchase from instructor dur- ing class time. Basic glass cutting skills required. With the choice to work on your own projects or take advantage of project ideas from the instructor this class allows you to let your creativity flow. Fusing tips and techniques will be offered throughout this 6 week class
6 wks– WED 5-7 pm May 24– June 28 (12 hrs)
$60 members/ $80 non-members

S17-07 PHOTOGRAPHY WITH SETH GRAVES
Instructor: Seth Graves
Explore the world of the digital camera with new instructor Seth Graves. A manual camera is required—no point and shoot cameras. The type of camera students are using is required at registration. Thumb drives are needed by all students. Class limit– 10 students (16 years+)
8 wks- TIME WED. 6pm—8 pm April 19-June 7 (16 hrs)

S17-08 SEE IT, DRAW IT
Instructor: Lanessa Miller
An opportunity to learn the basics of sketching form observation. Drawing as a group in class as well as drawing a little each day at home in a sketch journal! Whatever the skill level students will learn by doing and walk away with the practices and confidence to continue on their own.

S17-09 STUDIO PAINTING
Instructors: Craig Bishop
This class is designed for all skill levels and provides instruction in oil, acrylic and watercolor. Painless critiques will take place each week followed by a voluntary potluck lunch. Bring your own supplies. Class limit– 10 students

S17-10 OPEN STUDIO TIME –PAINTING AND CERAMIC STUDIOS
Open to Art Center members enrolled in a class— from 1 -4 pm- free to AC members if enrolled in a class and $12 per session for Art Center members not enrolled in a class.
12 wks- THURS Apr. 20-July 6 , 1-4 pm Free to members taking class/ $ 12 per session for members not enrolled in a class currently. No instructor available. Space limited to 10 students in each studio. (36 hrs)


FRIDAYS

S17-11 NEW-STUDIO-PAINTING
When class time is just not enough! Afternoon hours in the Painting studio are now available. Come enjoy our well lighted studio space and the time to interact with other artists.
12 wks—FRIDAYS Apr 21-July 7, 11-3 pm Space limited to 10 students in each studio.
$ 10 each session/ $ 12 per session for non-members (48 hrs)

S17-12 PENCIL SKETCHING for Students and Parents
Instructor: Tom Garland
Students of all ages learn the basics of drawing in this upbeat classroom setting. Bring a drawing pad and pencils. Other materials that will be explored include markers, paint and colored pencils. Parents are encouraged to come and work alongside their children for a $10 fee! A $5 discount for each additional child from the same household applies to this class.
Class limit-10 students Age: 6+ $ 10 for parent (each)

S17-13 ECO FRIENDLY 3-D SCULPTURE

Use the things around you to create up-cycled sculptures! Class limit– 10 students Age: 6+ $ 10 for parent (each)

Private Events

Plan your next teambuilding or recreation event with us. This is a wonderful opportunity for your team to work together in a relaxed, studio atmosphere with an experienced artist/instructor on either individual art pieces or a group work of art.

Workshops are available in both 2-D and 3-D Departments.

REGISTRATION- To register call 269-962-9511 or register online with PayPal, in person or mail registration with payment to Art Center of Battle Creek, 265 E. Emmett St., Battle Creek, MI 49017. Instructors do NOT accept regis-trations in the classroom.

Students registering on line through PayPal should contact the Art Center before registering to be sure the class they intend to take is running.
Registration is on a first come first serve basis. Payment is due in full at the time of registration. Registra-tions will be accepted until the second week of class if space is available. Classes that do not have a minimum of six (6) students one-week prior to the start of class, however, will be canceled.

REFUNDS-Refunds will be given ONLY when a registrant withdraws from a class AT LEAST ONE WEEK PRIOR to the first class session. NO CASH REFUNDS WILL BE MADE. Refunds will be in the form of a check or through PayPal if that was the original method of payment. There are no refunds for missed class sessions. No refunds will be given after the first class session. A $10 service fee will be deducted from all refunds. Please allow one month from the date of request to receive you refund.

CANCELLATIONS- The Art Center reserves the right to cancel any class when there is insufficient enroll-ment (minimum of six (6) students per class). Registrants will be notified. Registration pays are not processed until we have the mini-mum number of students required. We will make every effort to re-schedule a class when an instructor cancels but due to space and other classes we may be unable to re-schedule.

INCLEMENT WEATHER- If the Center finds it necessary to close due to weather conditions, cancella-tion information will be found at 269-962-9511. Classes cancelled for inclement weather will be resched-uled whenever possible and every effort will be made to contact stu-dents by phone.

WAIT LISTS- When a class fills quickly, the Center will offer registrants the opportunity to be placed on a waiting list. Wait list students will be called when space becomes available or if there are enough students to offer another class section.
