MONDAYS

F16-01 CO-OP INDEPENDENT CERAMICS Facilitator: Dallas Shoesmith
Students must have taken a minimum of 3 Advanced Ceramics classes. Students must be able to work without an instructor and be willing to share studio tasks such as mixing glazes, clean up and firing of the kiln, etc. as assigned by the facilitator. Skills in construction and glazing methods, advanced knowledge in chemicals and glaze formulas, the ability to load kilns and knowledge in firing temperatures is necessary. Extra open studio time is available on Thurs-days from 1-4 pm.
$25 material fee includes 25 lbs of clay, firings and glazes. Class limit-10 students(18 years +)
9 wks-MON. Sept 19-Nov 14- 1 pm-4 pm (27 hrs) $ 45 members/$ 85 non-members

F16-02 ADVANCED CERAMICS
instructor: Dallas Shoesmith
(Prerequisite for Independent Ceramics)
Explore surface tensions and add natural organic touches to traditional pots and sculptures. Be willing to explore. Glazing, use of chemicals and other processes will be demonstrated. You will have the opportunity to advance your creative skills by exploring a variety of mixed media with your clay creations. There will be a Raku workshop offered during the semester. Extra open studio time is available on Thursdays from 1-4 pm.

F16-03 WATERCOLOR FOR BEGINNERS Instructor: Liz Sweeny
Painting class offers a great opportunity for students eager to learn the secrets of creating watercolors. Instruction includes color wheel theory, composition, and best ways to apply paints to paper. Students are encouraged to explore individual styles and subjects for inspiration. Students are responsible for their own supplies Class limit-10 students(18 years +)

F16-05 FUSED GLASS
Instructor: Michelle Dunkelberger
This class offers students of all levels the opportunity to explore the world of fused glass with a variety of techniques while working at your own pace.
Class limit-10 student (18 years+)
9 wks- WED. 5:00 pm - 7 pm Sept 21-Nov.16 (18 hrs)

F16-06 BEGINNING & INTERMEDIATE CERAMICS
Instructor: Nicole Kamidoi
This class is an introduction to the basics of working with clay for beginnings and intermediate instructor for those with more experience. Learn the elements of clay design, glaze techniques and the firing process. $25 material fee includes 25 lbs of clay, firings and glazes.

F16-07 STUDIO PAINTING
Instructors: Craig Bishop and Sue Trowbridge
This class is designed for all skill levels and provides instruction in oil, acrylic and watercolor. Painless critiques will take place each week followed by a voluntary potluck lunch. Bring your own supplies. Class limit– 10 students

F16-08 OPEN STUDIO TIME –PAINTING AND CERAMIC STUDIOS
Open to Art Center members enrolled in a class— from 1 -4 pm- free to AC members if enrolled in a class and $12 per session for Art Center members not enrolled in a class.
12 wks- THURS Sept 22-Dec 15, 1-4 pm Free to members taking class/ $ 12 per session for members not enrolled in a class currently. No instructor available.


F16-09 STREET ART AND CANVAS
Instructor: Jaziel Pugh
Taking Street Art to the canvas in this 3 week class. Using spray paint as your base create a layered possibly glow in the dark painting. All supplies included.
Class limit– 10 students Age 18 +
3 wks– SAT. Sept 24-Oct 8, 11 am -1 pm (6 hrs) $ 45 members/$ 60 non-members

F16-10 DRAWING TECHNIQUES FOR PORTRAITS
Instructor: Jerome Washington
Basic pencil drawing techniques with an emphasis on portrait work.
Class limit-10 students Age 14 +

F16-11 PENCIL SKETCHING
for Students and Parents Instructor: Tom Garland
Students of all ages learn the basics of drawing in this upbeat classroom setting. Bring a drawing pad and pencils. Other materials that will be explored include markers, paint and colored pencils. Parents are encouraged to come and work alongside their children for a $10 fee! A $5 discount for each additional child from the same household applies to this class. Class limit-10 students Age: 6+ $ 10 for parent (each)

F16-12 BEGINNING CERAMICS FOR KIDS
Instructor: Nicole Kamidoi
In this class children will explore the basic principles of working with clay. They will learn to make pinch pots, coil pots, slab tiles, slab bowls and basic glaze application.
Class limit: 10 students Ages 6-10

F16-0 PARENT AND CHILD HARDWARE JEWELRY
Instructor: Marty Levy Using an assortment of art materials including hardware washers, copper, beads, chain, ribbon, paper, and other material, participants will make necklaces with a colorful pendants. These techniques can be used at home to make wonderful holiday gifts! Each pendant will be unique and examples will spark the imagination! F16-0 COPPER ETCHING
Instructor: Marty Levy This adult only workshop will allow you to try your hand at etching on copper. Make a unique necklace, using your newly created etched pendant, along with additional beads and chain. Marti will also demonstrate a variety of ways to add color etched pieces. Instructor: Susie Bylveis Explore abstract painting through the creation of monoprints. Lunch is from 12-12:30 so bring a sack lunch to eat in the studio (refrigerator and microwave available). Private Events

Plan your next teambuilding or recreation event with us. This is a wonderful opportunity for your team to work together in a relaxed, studio atmosphere with an experienced artist/instructor on either individual art pieces or a group work of art.

Workshops are available in both 2-D and 3-D Departments.

Every attempt is made to inform students on the status of any classes they have signed up for before the semester begins. If you have a question, please call the Art Center at 269-962-9511.

REGISTRATION- To register call 269-962-9511 or register online with PayPal, in person or mail registration with payment to Art Center of Battle Creek, 265 E. Emmett St., Battle Creek, MI 49017. Instructors do NOT accept regis-trations in the classroom.

Students registering on line through PayPal should contact the Art Center before registering to be sure the class they intend to take is running.
Registration is on a first come first serve basis. Payment is due in full at the time of registration. Registra-tions will be accepted until the second week of class if space is available. Classes that do not have a minimum of six (6) students one-week prior to the start of class, however, will be canceled.

REFUNDS-Refunds will be given ONLY when a registrant withdraws from a class AT LEAST ONE WEEK PRIOR to the first class session. NO CASH REFUNDS WILL BE MADE. Refunds will be in the form of a check or through PayPal if that was the original method of payment. There are no refunds for missed class sessions. No refunds will be given after the first class session. A $10 service fee will be deducted from all refunds. Please allow one month from the date of request to receive you refund.

CANCELLATIONS- The Art Center reserves the right to cancel any class when there is insufficient enroll-ment (minimum of six (6) students per class). Registrants will be notified. Registration pays are not processed until we have the mini-mum number of students required. We will make every effort to re-schedule a class when an instructor cancels but due to space and other classes we may be unable to re-schedule.

INCLEMENT WEATHER- If the Center finds it necessary to close due to weather conditions, cancella-tion information will be found at 269-962-9511. Classes cancelled for inclement weather will be resched-uled whenever possible and every effort will be made to contact stu-dents by phone.

WAIT LISTS- When a class fills quickly, the Center will offer registrants the opportunity to be placed on a waiting list. Wait list students will be called when space becomes available or if there are enough students to offer another class section.
