Rainbow Hair Book Event
Author Patricia Grimley : Born and raised in Saginaw, MI, attended Michigan State University, taught Social Studies and English at St. Charles Middle School, now retired, has a daughter and a son and 6 grandchildren. She is a breast cancer survivor.
Illustrator Carole Grimley: Long time Battle Creek resident and Art Center member. Grimley donates much of her time and talent in support of the Art Center and the community in which she calls home.
Open to all ages. The event begins with a reading of by the author and moves onto a hands on workshop where participants will create their own Rainbow Hair doll!

Food, entertainment, Latino music and a silent auction will be part of the festivities! This event runs concurrently with our Latinoamericano exhibit, which is on display from Sept. 27th – Oct. 27th.

UNITY IN DIVERSITY EXHIBITION
The Heartbeat and Ties of Many Cultures

Come experience and celebrate our diverse heritage by exploring Unity in Diversity: the Heartbeat and Ties of Many Cultures.
This exhibit open now through August 18th, is the result of a collaboration between Bridges to Cultural Understanding and the Art Center of Battle Creek.
Cultures from around the world will be showcased in this exhibit with special areas devoted to eating, clothing, transportation, homes and buildings, children and entertainment. A collection of colorful Chinese Peasant paintings on loan from Robert and Eleanor DeVries will be part of the exhibit as well to illustrate everyday life in China. A special area for children with games, toys and folk tales from around the world will provide a hands-on learning experience.
This year, 2018, is the Art Center’s 70th Anniversary of serving this community so in celebration a special display of dolls from 70 countries will be on display.
The Art Center is also partnering with Kingman Museum, who has an exhibit “From B.C. To Bangkok” opening in July and continuing through September. The Kingman exhibit will feature artifacts from countries including Japan, China, the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Brazil, Mexico, France, the Netherlands and more. Kingman Museum is open Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am to 4 pm and is free to the public.

Artists are invited to set up in the Art Center’s parking lot – to sell any art work of art related items: supplies books, etc.
Booth Fee is just $10 for a 10 x 10 space. Artists must provide all their own set up needs.
